Bilecik's greenhouses, which are important centers for undercover agriculture in the Marmara Region, have begun harvesting cucumbers. Cucumber production is three times a year in the greenhouses covering an area of ??2,700 hectares across Bilecik. Producers who come early in the morning to the greenhouses in the villages located in the Sakarya River basin in Söğüt district are picking their products and preparing them for shipment. Hüseyin Yıldırım, the headman of Yakacık Village, stated that greenhouse production is carried out on an area of ??more than 100 hectares in the village, and said, "This region is now called 'Marmara's Little Antalya'. The weight is on tomato and lettuce production in this region. We have started harvesting lettuce now. Then, tomatoes will come after 20 days. The first harvest is currently sold for 7-8 Turkish Liras. We do not sell much to Bilecik, our focus is on Istanbul, Izmit, Ankara, and Bursa, sending products to big cities. Approximately Çaltı, Akçasu, and Yakacık regions have at least 100 hectares of cucumber greenhouses. 1,500-2,000 tons of salad harvest were obtained per hectare. We are waiting for the same yield as last year. The prices are good now, and hopefully, it will continue like this. Many of the greenhouses are empty due to the disease. Some of them cannot be planted due to the shortage of laborers. Especially during the cucumber harvest, it is hard to do it without workers. This year, we were late, and the weather was cool. I planted these on April 10th. Normally, it should have been done in a month, but it took around one and a half months due to the weather."
