Eskişehir, known as the 'university city' with Anadolu University, Eskişehir Osmangazi University and Eskişehir Technical University within its boundaries, has seen an increase in job postings on the windows of many food and beverage establishments in recent times. These businesses, which are experiencing a shortage of staff, are trying to attract new personnel this way. Job advertisement owners state that those who apply are only interested in making money to get through the day due to economic hardship, especially students, and emphasise that they do not have a passion or interest in learning a profession for the future.

"Hardly see anyone progressing in the profession"
Yücel Dokuzlar, who has been working in the food industry for eight years and has owned a restaurant in Eskişehir for 2.5 years, stated that most of the job advertisements are for part-time work and that most of the applicants are university students. Dokuzlar, who said they have difficulty finding waiters, cooks and dishwashers in the sector, said, "We try to evaluate those who need it. The employee advertisement has been hanging in the shop window for three days. There are applicants. They work eight or six hours per day in a part-time working system and get paid accordingly. We calculate their salary taking into account minimum wage per hour. Generally, waiters, cooks and dishwashers are not very common in the market. Most of the applicants are students. They both eat their meals here and earn their pocket money. Young people prefer to work eight hours, but there are job postings everywhere, and there is no longer a passion and eagerness to learn a profession as before. We hardly see anyone progressing in the profession or striving to rise. Students work eight hours and say "three, five days or a week is enough for me" and get paid between one to one and a half thousand Turkish Liras. They just get through the day. They fill their stomachs and take their allowances. The employee advertisement stays on the shop window for an average of one week. We renew it after a week or 15 days."

"I have never seen someone come to learn a profession"
Mustafa Caraldak, a stajyer student in the Electrical-Electronics Engineering department at a technical high school in Eskişehir, who also works at a restaurant to earn his pocket money, highlighted that university students coming to Eskişehir have their desire to study as a secondary priority. Caraldak, who stated that those who applied for job postings rejected the job for not liking it and said many of his friends were in the same situation, stated, "They usually work at one place. They also spend the money they earn by having fun outside at night. Therefore, no one can hold onto money. Those who apply to job advertisements do not like the job. They cannot afford it, saying "I can't do this job". They don't accept the terms. We can't find too many people who really need the money. I have never seen someone come to learn a profession. I have many friends in university, most of whom work somewhere. Even if someone who applied to work comes and works for a few days, they don't like the job and leave. They find it difficult to work. Their only goal is to earn a lot of money and spend it. They don't feel committed to where they work, and they don't see themselves as permanent there. I'm both an intern at high school and work here on weekends. During the week, I earn my pocket money by working here. Most of the applicants do not think about the future."

"Those who work on themselves reach good positions"
Caraldak highlighted that a person who works in a job should improve himself/herself and have goals for the future, "Three people came for an interview yesterday. They talked and left. Mostly men apply. They do not see the work they will do as a profession. They need to improve themselves, but they do not. Those who work on themselves and improve reach good positions. They see this work as temporary. They earn as much money as they need and leave. Then, the job postings have to be renewed. Those who really need the job work stably and improve themselves. At least they have to work until the semester ends in school. Those who have big goals should educate themselves from basics."
