Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ) Faculty of Medicine Stroke Center, established within the Neurology Department, has been accredited as a 'Comprehensive Stroke Center' by the World Stroke Organization.

The center was audited by three independent stroke neurologists from abroad and was recognized as one of the top stroke centers by the World Stroke Organization, the most important organization in the field. The accreditation decision was announced at the World Stroke Congress held in Toronto, Canada. Prof. Dr. Atilla Özcan Özdemir, the Head of ESOGÜ Stroke Center and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, stated that the center has been serving Eskişehir and the surrounding provinces since 2010.

"Our stroke center operates with a great teamwork spirit, in collaboration with the center coordinator, the Stroke Center team of the Department of Neurology, Eskişehir Provincial Health Directorate and its affiliated hospitals, 112 Emergency Services Team, and the support of the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Faculty of Medicine. Patients with suspected stroke are evaluated by the 112 Emergency Services system and are directly referred to the stroke center. In order to increase stroke awareness among the public, a project was carried out with the support of the Communication Faculty of Anadolu University, and it has become an example for Turkey in increasing stroke awareness among the people in Eskişehir. Additionally, the Department of Speech and Language Therapy of Anadolu University played a role in evaluating the speech and swallowing disorders of stroke patients. ESOGÜ Stroke Center, the first official stroke center in Turkey, has provided brain revascularization treatments to thousands of patients. In addition to providing training for 40 neurology specialists from different regions of Turkey for brain revascularization therapy, international experts have also been trained at our stroke center. Our center also collaborates with the ESOGÜ Neurosurgery Clinic for neuroangiographic interventions and surgeries for brain hemorrhages. We owe our gratitude to the institutions and employees who have supported the establishment of our stroke center and who were part of the stroke organization team."
