Afyonkarahisar, the land where the Republic was won, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic with a series of events. In this context, the exhibition "The 100-Year Journey of the Republic in Turkish and Local Newspapers in Afyonkarahisar" was opened at the Dumlupınar Science and Art Center under the auspices of the Afyonkarahisar Governorate.

The opening ribbon of the exhibition was cut by Governor Doç. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı, Supply and Garrison Commander Brigadier General Numan Yöner, Chief Public Prosecutor Fatih Karabacak, Deputy Governors Uğur Kolsuz and Mehmet Keklik, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Afyonkarahisar Mustafa Ali Çelikten, Provincial Director of National Education Miraç Sünnetci, Dumlupınar BİLSEM Director Hakan Gümüş, teachers, and students.

A total of 85 newspaper clippings from local newspapers in Turkey and Afyonkarahisar were obtained by the students of Dumlupınar BİLSEM from the Afyonkarahisar Gedik Ahmet Paşa Public Library and the National Library Digital System in order to show how the Republic Day activities were reflected in the newspapers.

-Newspapers as Archival Documents

Prior to the opening, Tuğçe Özden Çınar, the Social Studies Teacher at Dumlupınar BİLSEM, gave information about the content of the exhibition and said, "As Dumlupınar Science and Art Center, we try to raise awareness among our students about the historical importance of newspapers as archival documents. Today's exhibition is a product of this understanding. Because our students will take this activity to the columns of newspapers tomorrow, and years later, researchers who want to investigate what happened in Afyonkarahisar on the 100th anniversary of the Republic will see the news of our exhibition through our newspapers."

-Meaningful for Me

Governor Doç. Dr. Kübra Güran Yiğitbaşı stated that the exhibition has a great significance for her, saying, "We are opening a meaningful exhibition on the 100th anniversary of our Republic. It is especially meaningful for me because we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic as the administrator of a key city in the national struggle. This exhibition has a different aspect for me as well. As a governor who has a PhD in journalism and has worked as an academic in the past, I will be opening this exhibition. Local newspapers are an archive that sheds light on history, witness to history, and it is important for our young people, adults, and the entire society to see them. The local newspapers reflect the emotions of the moment, whether it's pain, joy, sorrow, grief, or heroism, and they are an archive."

-Long Live Our State Forever

Governor Yiğitbaşı emphasized that the exhibition also reflects the spirit of the national struggle, saying, "In the 100th year of our Republic, these exhibitions will enable us to experience and witness the emotions of that period, how the emotions were conveyed in the local newspapers throughout Turkey. We know how our ancestors fought for the national struggle under the leadership of our heroic army and Gazi Mustafa Kemal. We will understand and see how our people, both men and women, young and old, took part in the front lines of the national struggle. I congratulate the 100th anniversary of our Republic. Long live our state forever."

After Governor Yiğitbaşı's speech, the ribbon cutting ceremony took place. The program ended with the examination of the photographs in the exhibition and a photo shoot.
