Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ) hosted the 'Bad Robot Competition' organized by Eskişehir Engineering Club (ESOES), where robots of various types competed fiercely to gain superiority over each other.

The 'Bad Robot Competition', HEBOCON 2023, was held at ESOGÜ with the participation of a total of 16 contestants in teams of two from Istanbul Bilgi University, Galatasaray University, Hacettepe University, Uludağ University, Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Anadolu University, and Eskişehir Technical University.

Intense competition took place

Various robots made from toys and scrap parts by 8 teams competed fiercely in an elimination-style competition on a specially prepared platform. The colorful appearance of the competing robots drew attention, and the competition was enthusiastically watched by students from the stands. The team that finished first was awarded 3,000 Turkish Lira, and the second-placed team received 2,000 Turkish Lira as a prize.

"We tried to make a somewhat unconventional car"

Gökhan Yiğit, a student of Industrial Engineering at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, stated that he had gained experience by participating in this competition last year and said, "We started this competition by doing engineering calculations. We came prepared. I also participated in this competition last year, so I had a bit of an advantage because of my experience. We added a chassis and axles to our car, and ensured that our wheels turned in a more proportional and coordinated manner. We tried to make a somewhat unconventional car."

"Everyone has made really powerful and sturdy robots"

Sezai Enes Yıldızhan, the President of the Engineering Club at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, provided information about the Bad Robot Competition and said, "Our competition here is the HEBOCON bad robot competition. It is originally a competition that originated in Japan. Our participating teams create the worst, the most terrible robots they can make from toy and scrap parts. Then, these robots are competed against each other in a tournament format. The competitions are really fierce. There have been many draws between robots. Everyone has made really powerful and sturdy robots, and there are intense battles. We are considering making this competition a tradition. This is our second year. Hopefully, it will be organized even better next year."

"We are currently reaping the rewards of the months-long effort we put in"

Serra Tekmen, a 1st-year Aeronautical Engineering student at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, as well as a Board Member of the Engineering Club and the Coordinator of HEBOCON 2023, expressed that they have achieved the fruits of their labor with the competition they organized and stated, "My fellow board members and I worked hard to bring HEBOCON to this point. We are currently reaping the rewards of the months-long effort we put in. Our competitions are really intense and fiercely competitive. All of our competitors are really good. We are planning to repeat the competition in the coming years."
