Afyonkarahisar'da Taklit Ürün Operasyonu: 3 Ton Deterjan ve 100 Litre Şampuan Ele GeçirildiEskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Theology Dean, and also a hafiz, a mufassir, and an Islamic Law scholar, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yıldırım has initiated the 'Maturidi Lectures' series.
Maturidism, a theological school of thought founded by Imam Maturidi, who himself is of Turkic origin, will be explained by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yıldırım every Tuesday at 20:00 at the Türk Ocağı Mansion throughout the semester. The first lecture, held yesterday, was attended by an interested and crowded audience. The discussion continued until late hours with intense questions asked by the listeners, accompanied by complimentary tea.
Speaking at the lecture held last night, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yıldırım stated, "Imam Maturidi, a Turkish scholar, is one of the two great scholars who established the Sunni belief system and shaped the understanding of the Islamic religion in the Turkic world. The other great scholar is Imam Ash'ari, who had a great influence on the belief system in the Arab world. The most important difference between them is the issue of whether reason or revelation takes precedence."
Yıldırım pointed out that Western Islamic researchers, despite examining and publishing many handwritten Islamic works, neglected to print and present Maturidi's works to the world of knowledge. He stated, "The reason for this is, in our opinion, the concern over the revival of a rational interpretation of Islam, which had a significant contribution to the establishment of Islamic civilization. They want to prevent the penetration of the Ash'ari understanding dominant in the Arab world into the Turkish society and take precautions against an irrational understanding of religion. Therefore, we believe that there is a great need for Maturidi research and increasing the conversation platforms on this subject. For this reason, this year's Tuesday lectures at the Eskişehir Türk Ocağı will be focused on Imam Maturidi."
